COUNSELING - Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology

Welcome to the Counseling Program at

The University of Texas at San Antonio!

We are a vibrant, collegial faculty with a keen interest in generating the best possible training experiences for our students. I am pleased to be one of eight new faculty members to join the ranks of this energetic and collaborative group within the last four years. No doubt, this has been a time of significant transition for students and faculty alike. It has also been a period of organizational change and adjustment. We are currently seeking CACREP accreditation and reorganizing our program to align with the requirements of this important professional standard of excellence.

The faculty and administration of the counseling program recognize the need to increase communication with students and to provide the most up to date information on policies, standards, important dates to remember, and other essential program agendas.  We are excited to announce the reorganization of our new website, where students and interested applicants can access the latest news and information on our program’s development and direction.  Please consult this website regularly.

Additionally, we have created a number of handbooks that detail the specifics of each program for students and prospective students. These handbooks are rich in information and context for students involved in School Counseling, Community Counseling, Ph.D. in Counselor Education, and Clinical (Practica and Internship) experiences. Please reference these handbooks for the most current information on our program’s policies and expectations. They can be found on this website.

I am pleased to also introduce you to our Student Development Specialist, Kristina Talamantez (Kristina.talamantez@utsa.edu) who can help you in a number of invaluable ways. Please review Kristina’s page on this website for further information on how she can help your process.

Again, thank you for your interest in the Counseling Program at the University of Texas at San Antonio.  May your time here be rewarding and fulfilling!

My best wishes,

Thelma Duffey, Ph.D.
