Community Counseling

Welcome!  I hope this doesn’t sound crass but as I see it, you, our students, are our customers.  The “product” that we sell is an educational experience that leads to skills and knowledge, as well as credentials that make it possible for you to practice as a counselor.  Our faculty will teach you how to deliver counseling, educational, and consultation services to public and private community-based agencies and organizations.  The 48-semester-hour Community Counseling Track meets the educational requirements for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) credential in Texas.  You should consult the Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors for information about post-graduate LPC requirements.  We, as faculty, owe it to the tax payers of Texas to make sure that we don’t award degrees to individuals who are incompetent or who are unethical.  That’s why we have a Fitness to Practice policy, require you to pass a Comprehensive Exam, and adhere to rigorous standards.  A side benefit to being in a counseling program is the opportunity to grow personally, as well as professionally.  That part, however, is up to you.

Please feel free to contact me at 458-2601 or larry.golden@utsa.edu.
